Introducing Paul Bloomfield – the Managing Director of Lace Law

SWP-16-LACELAWWEBSIZE (51)Key to Lace Law’s philosophy is that our people are of vital importance to what we do, as they have the real world business experience needed to be able to provide advice to our clients and add value to their business.

It is this experience that allows them to act as “sounding boards” for businesses’ day to day issues, and allows our people to provide them with actual advice rather than just options.

We have previously profiled two members of the Lace Law team – our Corporate and Commercial Solicitor Luke Rees, and our Non Executive Director and Consultant Solicitor Philip Armitage. In this article we are introducing our Managing Director, solicitor Paul Bloomfield, and detail the experience he has had working in and with businesses over the last 30 years.

Originally from Sunderland, Paul graduated from Staffordshire University in 1985 with a BA (Hons) degree in Law. Paul specialises in Commercial Property, Commercial Leases and Construction Contracts. In fact, he spent 10 years working within a respected local construction company as their in-house solicitor, where he was responsible for managing property acquisition and disposal, commercial contracts, and share and asset sales and disposals. He also gained a lot of experience of JCT contracts with projects including petrol stations, convenience stores, social housing sites and large commercial premises. He provided advice and support to the Managing Director and the Board as well as support and guidance to the other employees of the business. This gave him the wide-based experience of a commercial environment which is so utterly invaluable to him now.

In total, Paul has over 30 years experience of offering swift, client focused legal solutions to businesses and their leaders, and therefore knows how to not only help businesses to reach their commercial objectives, but also knows how to minimise their risk, because he has gained a sound understanding of the real challenges that businesses can face and do face, both now and in the future.

He started at Newark based Larken & Co Solicitors in 1987 as a trainee, becoming an assistant solicitor in 1989 and a partner in 1992. As a trainee and assistant solicitor he gained experience of most areas of law, including time practising criminal, family and employment law, before he started specialising in property and commercial/company work. It was whilst working at Larken & Co that he received his MBA from Nottingham University Business School in 2003.

Paul stayed at Larken & Co until 2004, when he joined a local construction company as an in-house solictor and in addition to legal work gained a broad based business experience. For three years whilst there he was also Managing Director ofa residential care home provider, a new business that built a 15 bed residential autism care unit in Hampton, Peterborough. He also acted as a director of a medical products company exporting to America.

Following that, he spent two years as Senior Solicitor at Andrew & Co LLP Solicitors in Newark on Trent, helping clients with property acquisition, property development, property leases and construction contracts for all types of commercial projects.

Paul founded Lace Law in May 2016 and has been the driving force behind both our development and behind the purely client focused services that we provide to our clients. Away from Lace Law, Paul enjoys motor sports in his spare time, and has a track car which can often be seen on the track at nearby Cadwell Park, near Louth. He also is a keen football fan, often travelling to Sunderland to watch his home team play.

Paul also likes to keep fit, and enjoys going to the gym and walking his two dogs with his partner Jane across Lincolnshire. Between them, Paul and Jane have four adult children, and Paul also has two grandchildren, so they very much enjoy spending time with their family, as well as travelling, socialising and going to the theatre dnd to concerts.

Paul can be contacted by email at paul.bloomfield@lacelaw.co.uk or by phone on 01400 670982.

Let us make your business, our business

SWP-16-LACELAWWEBSIZE (45)We believe that our approach to client care at Lace Law really sets us apart.

Our team understands that every business works differently and it’s therefore central to our ethos that we really get under the skin of our clients business to understand how they operate, the real challenges they face and the priorities they have. We do this in a variety of ways; through initial consultations, regular contact and periodic visits to our clients to keep up to date with their business activities.

Our approach is then designed to give our clients clear, concise advice focussed on how we can quickly add value to their business. Many of our long term clients now view us as an extension of their business - their own in-house legal department if you like. We achieve this by knowing how our clients businesses work on an in depth level and by having extensive commercial experience and business acumen gained by not only working in law for many decades, but also through working in industry and other sectors.

We are not in the market to offer our clients a ‘one size fits all’ legal service. We see ourselves as business advisors who are providers of pro-active solutions to assist with our clients commercial legal challenges. For the Lace Law team, this rarely involves quoting endless passages of Company law. We know that our clients don’t have the time to read through pages and pages of legal options and be left to pick the bones out of them and make a decision. Our focus when advising our clients is on assessing the legal options available to them against the specific needs and priorities of a particular business. We are then able to offer a clear strategy on the best way forward.

We believe in finding real solutions to our client’s problems rather than burying them under complicated legal jargon. Of course we have an extensive knowledge of the law, but we feel that our job is not simply to recite it to clients but rather to apply it to solve problems in the clearest and best way for them. Our belief in this approach is so important to us that it forms part of our name – LACE stands for Lawyers Advising Commercial Enterprises. We offer our legal services to all manner of commercial enterprises, including limited companies, community interest companies, limited liability company partnerships, charities and sole traders.

If you would like to work with commercial lawyers who will advise you and offer the best solutions to your problems then give us a call on 01400 670982 or visit our website http://www.lacelaw.co.uk/ to find out more about us and how we can help you and your business.

Introducing Luke Rees - Lace Law’s Corporate and Commercial Solicitor

clip_image002Central to Lace Law are our people, who have the real world business experience needed to be able to provide advice to our clients and add value to their business.

It is this experience that allows them to act as “sounding boards” for businesses’ day to day issues, and allows our people to provide them with actual advice rather than just options.

We therefore want you to get to know our team a little better, with this article being the first in a series introducing them. First to be profiled is Luke Rees, our corporate and commercial solicitor, who specialises in dealing with company and commercial matters for business clients. Luke joined the Lace Law team in January 2017, having previously been a partner and Head of Business Law at a renowned law firm in Mansfield, where he spent three years developing their commercial section.

Luke obtained his first degree, a BA Honours degree in Politics and Modern History, from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth in 2001. He then graduated as a teacher, before opting for a career change and studying law. He qualified as a solicitor from the College of Law in York in 2009, having completed his training contract at a well-respected law firm in Newark, where he worked for nearly seven years.

Luke has a considerable amount of commercial acumen, which enables him to provide his clients’ with solutions to their legal issues rather than just an unhelpful list of options. He also has extensive experience of advising businesses in relation to a wide variety of legal issues, including company law matters, incorporations, commercial contracts, shareholders agreements, business sales and acquisitions, corporate employment, lease matters on behalf of landlords and tenants, TUPE advice, corporate finance and sales and purchases of commercial property.

He is particularly passionate about adding value to the businesses that he assists. He aims to remove all of the complicated legal jargon from the relationship and instead provide clear and honest advice to his clients in plain English. He believes firmly in creating relationships with his clients and providing a level of service which mean that they view him both as a trusted in-house lawyer and as an extension of their business.

Luke is a family man, who is married with two young children - Dylan and Martha. Work and being daddy therefore tends to keep him extremely busy, but in the spare time that he has Luke enjoys going to the gym (which he attends at 5am!) and playing sports. Although cricket and rugby are his two favourites, he describes himself as “too old and fragile to play rugby anymore”, but remains an avid follower of the Welsh national team, honouring his proud lineage!

Luke can be contacted by email at luke.rees@lacelaw.co.uk or by phone on 01400 670982.
